About Gussey Farms

Gussey Farms has been in the family for three generations and is currently operated by William "Bill" Gussey. Bill as well as his brother, Steven Gussey work together to do the planting, spraying, haying and harvesting. Gussey Farms was started in the early 1900's by Grandpa William "Willy" Gussey and then was taken over by Bill and Steven's Father, Gary (Nancy) Gussey.  Gary passed away in August 2020.

Gussey Farms is a small grain farm focused on growing and harvesting canola, durum and spring wheat.  They also plant different types of grasses including oats/millet, alfalfa, and sorghum sedan to hay and sell all over the USA.  In the past Gary and Willy ran cattle and horses for many years before Gary sold off the catlle in 2013.

Oats/Millet in 2023

The 2023 hay crop has been interesting this year with Mother Nature producing several days of heavy rain. The rain made it difficult to cut down grass and other varieties as the ground was too wet and wouldn't dry out. However, once it did dry out and we were able to cut down the Oats/Millet the result was absolutely fantastic.

Black Cat Hay Bale Display

Fall 2022 we put together a hay bale display featuring a black cat made out of 2 bales. It took 20 cans of black spray paint to cover the surface! We used two childrens surf boards spray painted in pink for the ears and cut out a nose from a piece of wood and spray painted that as well. The eyes were hand painted on with green spray paint and a tail was added to the back using an old Shop-Vac hose. In addition, we added a small painted pumpkin bale with a jack-o-lantern face with a flower pot stem as well as pumpkins, gourds, dried corn and other accents to add more depth. The Gussey Farm is a bit of a black cat sancuary as that seems to be what we have running around for barn cats. We made this hay bale display as a tribute to them. It was a fun project, but so much work. We hope to do another display in the future. Stay tuned for updates on that!
